ProjectSNOW

ProjectSNOW

This is a new scheme set up this year in order to encompass all community-based initiatives that are run by John snow. This includes; working with school children in local areas teaching reading and writing skills, working alongside Refuse Café in Chester Le Street to provide food for the homeless, Foodbank raffles, Care Home Penpals and much more. Please email me rory.c.leventhorpe@durham.ac.uk if you have any questions about these schemes.

The S Games

The S Games

Another new initiative. This will be our new Varsity, competing against South College throughout the year in a number of competitions including sport, debating, cheerleading and more. Each event will be to raise money and the college who raises the most money will lift the cup at the end of the year!

Movember

Movember

Guy’s get ready to clean shave and grow a fantabulous moustache for charity!

This event is a staple in the John Snow Calendar. As it stands John Snow Rugby Club have raised the most money for the last few years however this could all change. The event changes every year, but one thing is for sure, there is hair involved and money raised!

John Snow Charity Fashion Show

John Snow Charity Fashion Show

2020 marked a new era in charity events in John Snow JCR’s first ever Charity Fashion Show!

This project allowed a vast number of students to get involved in committee roles and modelling (talk the talk or walk the walk) and the event raised a brilliant total over £4000 for a local Durham mental health charity.

JSCFS is now a ratified JCR society and we can’t wait for our students to get involved in organising and hosting another great charity event!

24 Hour Matches

24 Hour Matches

This is our strongest charitable tradition at John Snow. After exams during our fortnight of fun we look to complete over a variety of sports for 24 hours!

It doesn’t matter your capability level, all are welcome to either participate or indeed watch.

Durham University's SCA

Durham University's SCA

SCA is a student-led, community-focused organisation. We’re here to respond to the needs of the local community, and to offer unique volunteer opportunities to Durham students. With a 1000 students volunteers there is a whole host of things to get involved in whether you want to work with children, adults or animals!

SCA runs residential trips with children referred through social services, does dog walking for local residents, computer classes for the elderly, works with local schools, prisons and care homes and much more. We also run projects supporting other students within our own community these promote mental wellbeing and keeping safe.

DUCK

DUCK

Durham University Charities Kommittee, as known as DUCK, is Durham's version of a university RAG, which means they are here to support all students and staff in fundraising for charities in the North East, nationally and internationally. At John Snow we encourage our students to get involved in this as much as possible.

Charity Formals

Charity Formals

Formals are AMAZING. One of the best things you do as part of college. SO imagine all that, mixed in with fancy dress, table swapping, a bop afterwards and so much more! This year I plan to work closely with college to create John Snow’s very first ever charity formal, all raising money and having fun whilst we do it!
