Agents work as a team to ensure minority communities are represented and aim to make the College accessible to everyone.
JANE ZHU- International Agent
As the International Agent and President of the John Snow International Association, I represent international students within the JCR, making sure their voices are heard and helping them feel welcome and at home in John Snow. I also organise cultural and social events that celebrate traditions from around the world, bringing our community together to learn from one another, make new friends, and have fun. NATHANIA ANU - SOCIAL MOBILITY AGENT
As well as being President of Social Mobility Association, I will be here to support and act as a point of contact for any Freshers from working class, state educated and first-generation backgrounds at Snow! Any advice, insight or signposting to programmes, people, events or pathways that would accelerate your engagement with university or the workplace, I can help with! And I’ll also be sure to address any college-related suggestions or queries, in order to hopefully improve the everyone’s John Snow experience for everyone!
PLACEMENT AGENT
Hello! My name is Grace and I'm a fourth year Combined Social Sciences student who last year completed a placement year. This year I hope to organise events with organisations who offer placement years, provide support to students seeking a placement year and hope to create a community of students returning to university after their placement year. I'm very much looking forward to doing the role next year and meeting students maybe thinking about doing a placement year!
EMILY ATKINS - LIVERS OUT AGENT
Hi, my name is Emily (she/her) and I will be your Livers Out Agent this year. I will be working alongside FREPs to ensure people living out of college get to enjoy all Freshers Week has to offer. I will also be organising events for those living out to meet other people living out of college throughout the year
BEN BURKE - ENVIRONMENTAL AGENT
As the Environmental Agent and President of the John Snow Environmental Association, I aim to ensure our college protects and nurtures the environment around Durham, as best as possible. I organise events for students to engage with their lived environment, meet like-minded people and protect the wildlife around our college. LENI ACKWANY - People of Colour Agent
Throughout this year, I'm so excited to organise events, and be a friendly face around college. My main aim is for students of colour to feel supported and celebrated within the community.
YEAR ABROAD AGENT
Hello I’m Claudia your Year Abroad Agent for the year and I have just come back from a year studying abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France. My role as Year Abroad Agent is to support students wishing to go on a year abroad, currently on a year abroad, or coming back from one, and I will be happy to answer any questions anyone has about studying or working abroad for the year. I hope to organise some events for anyone interested in a year abroad and even host some socials for returners! I look forward to meeting everyone wishing to be a part of the year abroad community!
ROSIE HARRISON - LGBTQIA+ AGENT
Hi I'm Rosie (she/her) and I am your LGBTQ+ Agent and President of the LGBTQ+ Society in Snow. My role is to support LGBTQ+ students and be a friendly, approachable face around college! I will work to help create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels safe. Throughout the year, I will organise social events, campaigns, and activities, with a range of opportunities for everyone to get involved and build a sense of community. I will also run drop-ins where students can come by for a chat, and I can help them access support if needed.
LEONIE ARMSTRONG- DISABILITIES AGENT
As Disabilities Representative, I support students with disabilities throughout the year. I advocate for their needs in college discussions, promote accessibility, and raise awareness of disability-related issues. I aim to ensure every Snow student feels valued and able to take part fully in college life.
