Welcome to Societies at Snow!

Societies offer a welcoming and inclusive space for all students at Snow to explore their interests. University-wide societies (often called a ‘DU society’) are inter-collegiate and sometimes involve a small annual fee, whereas our societies are Snow based and, big incentive, are free! However, this doesn’t mean we don’t provide the goods. With each society given a budget, we are incredibly fortunate to receive funding for equipment such as a DSLR camera, Nintendo Switch, baking and cooking starter kits, as well as art and fitness supplies. It has made our societies even more accessible to our students, and we very much look forward to putting it all to good use this year!

Some of our most popular societies include our LGBTQ+, Feminist and POC Socs that celebrate the diversity of Snow and, importantly, provide a platform for student voices to shine from. We currently have over 25 societies here at Snow. From Board Games to Theatre, from Boxing to Taylor Swift, our student-run societies cater to a wide variety of interests that are a welcome break from our degrees.

Whether it be continuing a long-established hobby such as playing a musical instrument, wanting to try a brand-new skill or exploring a new interest, participating in societies can be tailored entirely by you! This is a no-pressure zone with there being as much or as little commitment as you like, from joining on day 1 or day 101, from being a social member to holding a committee position to even setting up your own, societies are such a fun way to get involved in college life! Holding an ‘exec’ position in a society is not just a CV-filler but a super exciting opportunity for you to really shape your experiences at Snow with those who make the most valuable contributions being invited to the annual Sports and Societies Dinner in June, where the highly coveted full and half colours are awarded!
